I recently had the privilege of helping a client move from an A1 to a B1 level of English in just 66 hours. It was an amazing journey, and I want to share exactly how we achieved this remarkable progress.
1. A Tailored Course
The first step was designing a course specifically tailored to his goals. Every lesson, exercise, and activity was chosen with his objectives in mind. This ensured that every minute of our time together was relevant and effective.
2. Building a Personal Connection with Empathy
I built a deep personal connection with him, rooted in empathy. I understood, not just his goals, but also his struggles, fears, and motivations. I instinctively anticipated his needs and responded accordingly.
I created an atmosphere where he felt comfortable sharing his challenges, knowing that I was genuinely invested in his success. This emotional and intuitive connection allowed me to adapt my teaching to his unique learning style and build the trust that is essential for progress.
3. Fostering Good Learning Habits
I didn’t just teach English—I coached him to become a GREAT English language learner. I supported him in developing study habits and strategies that empowered him to take control of his own learning.
4. Detailed Feedback on Homework
Every piece of homework he completed was discussed and reviewed in depth. We would discuss my constructive feedback to help him improve and build confidence in his abilities.
5. Encouragement and Celebration
Whenever he faced challenges, I encouraged him to keep going. When he made progress, I celebrated his achievements with him. By constantly championing his efforts, I kept him motivated and engaged.
6. Always Available for Questions
His questions didn’t stop when the lessons ended, and neither did my support. I made myself available to answer his queries outside of our scheduled sessions.
7. Flexibility in Lessons
Learning needs can change, and I adapted our focus whenever something new came up. This flexibility ensured he always got the most out of our lessons.
8. Setting Achievable Goals
We broke his overall goal into smaller, achievable milestones. This kept him motivated and allowed us to track his progress along the way.
9. Lesson Flexibility
Life happens, and I accommodated his schedule when needed. Changing lesson days or times ensured he never missed out on learning.
10. Fun and Engagement
Finally, we had fun during our lessons. Keeping the atmosphere light and engaging made learning enjoyable and something he looked forward to. They were much more like friends meeting up than lessons.
The Secret to Success
Notice I haven’t mentioned materials, pedagogy, or teaching methods. They just don’t matter as much as others will tell you they do. By making the learner’ needs a priority at all times, we achieved something incredible—and that’s what truly counts.
Are you ready to get more focused, have more fun, and make faster progress?
